The Connected Lighting Alliance Extends Scope to Indoor Professional Lighting

In recent years, solutions for wireless control of lighting systems have entered the indoor professional market to drive energy efficiency and improve quality of light for end users. These control systems should allow cost-effective installation, configuration and reconfiguration, and flexible control of fixtures. Existing solutions are based on several proprietary technologies and open standards, but it is widely recognized that interoperability between lighting devices will drive faster market adoption in commercial and public buildings. However, the lighting market currently lacks a common open wireless connectivity standard that meets the requirements of the indoor professional lighting industry.

To address this market need, The Connected Lighting Alliance will propose lighting-specific requirements for an open wireless connectivity standard for indoor professional lighting.
