LED to light up backward regions


The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has planned to install around 1,100 LED lights in wards dominated by backward class people. The proposal will be tabled at the upcoming general body meeting. Funds allotted for the backward class will be used for the purpose and a budget of nearly Rs 5 crore has been set aside for the project.


The TMC had planned to install more than 5,000 LED lights across the city which is said to be power consuming up to 50 percent, of which 1,000 have already been installed. lamps across the city and are in the process to illuminate city streets with LED lights spread across nine wards under the jurisdiction of TMC.


LED lights can be used for 75,000 hours, compared to the 17,000 hours of sodium vapour which will cut down the maintenance cost due to durability. Also, the sodium vapour lamps have 20mg of hazardous metal like mercury, said a TMC source. The LED is free of mercury added a TMC source and protecting the nature.
